I have decided that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is worse than pricks! I recently applied for SSA disability with the help of an attorney. During the required assessment with the SSA appointed doctor who decided to eat his lunch at the same time he examined me, I was asked irrelevant questions such as if I could twist a doorknob.
Now the government DOES consider type 1 diabetes as a legal disability under United State federal law. Because type 1 diabetes is a protected disability, individuals have the right to request fair treatment and adjustments in public spaces, schools and workplaces. It DOES NOT mean that the SSA agrees with the law.
Here is the quote from the denial letter recently received. “Your condition results in some limitations in your ability to perform work related activities. However, these limitations do not prevent you from performing work you have done in the past as a/n Web master, as you described.”
Now first off, I have not made money from my web work in 10 years. My websites are for me to express myself. Also, with the onset of Artificial Intelligence (AI), I do not think “Web master” is a legitimate career choice for anyone nowadays. Although I occasionally allow AI to help me, I did not use AI while creating this post.
I have been working part time at Publix for over three years now and they are more than accommodating. I sincerely appreciate their support. I use a Medtronic 780G pump with an Instinct sensor. This setup has also been wonderful to reduce the complications inherent to my condition. I do not mind the tubing, and I also think that this system is better than say Omni Pod because I cannot forget or lose my pump and hence get constant blood glucose readings visible on the pump if I forget or lose my phone.
I did get the chance to appeal the SSA decision, but it literally would make health matters such as diabetic anxiety, which was assessed as irrelevant by the SSA, worse for me. As I stated previously, the SSA is worse than pricks!
